From the Concepción Photographers Association, we are happy to invite you and your family this August 17 at 3:00 p.m. to a photography exhibition by Cuban photographer Ruber Osoria.
The exhibition 'Trace of the Cuban Diaspora in Chile', by Cuban photographer Ruber Osoria, immerses us in the stories of Cubans who, for various reasons, have left their Caribbean island behind to settle in Chile. Through his photographs, Ruber seeks to humanize and give voice to this migrant community. His sensitive and direct gaze invites us to reflect on the experience of the diaspora and the search for a new home in Chilean lands.
In 2018, Ruber emigrated to Chile from Cuba in search of a better life, driven by the dream of purchasing his first camera. During his journey to Chile, Ruber fell victim to human trafficking and endured thirst, hunger, and fear. In 2019, he co-founded AFoConce (@afo_conce), an educational photography collective with other photographers, aiming to foster a "photographic culture."
In "Trace of the Cuban Diaspora in Chile," Ruber captures the stories of Cuban men, women, and children who have crossed borders and left their homes and families behind to seek a better life in Chile. Through his photographs, Ruber celebrates the vibrant and resilient Cuban diaspora community in Chile, showing how they maintain their Cuban culture and traditions while embracing their new lives in Chile.
