Out and About
Liverpool Street
I was invited to travel down to London the other day, to catch up with a Progressive friend of mine, Niklas Lindskog, from Sweden. We don’t speak often but we know each other pretty well, having shared digs in Istanbul and Kolkata. With a lot going on at the moment I said I couldn’t make it and besides, if I’m going to shoot in London I’d rather spend a few days doing so. “OK” he said, “I’ll come to you.” Well Chester is a great place on the right day but it’s hardly a buzzing metropolis so we agreed on Liverpool, although I’m not overly familiar with the city myself to be honest, which became abundantly clear when I met him at Lime Street station. “Not sure where to take you for street mate”. “That’s ok, let’s walk around, find some people”. Niklas’s relaxed approach reminded me of my business travels to Scandinavia many years ago.
Not having shot street for many months I was pretty rusty and it took me a while to warm up. Can’t say I captured anything profound but it was fun and so good to speak with this good friend of mine. You know you click with someone when it feels more like 2 months, rather than 15, since you last saw them.
Many of the shots I offer for your perusal I wouldn’t post individually in the group but as a set they feel right, they capture the mood of the day, the city vibe. We did indeed find people - doing people stuff - and aside from one crotchety young person who got on her high horse about street photography, it was a great day. The response from people generally and the warmth of some interactions was a buzz.
Thank you Niklas, I needed that push mate.
