SOLITARY
Kessel has been in isolation at home almost full-time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. For the past ten years, he has indulged in street photography, capturing candid shots of people every day. However, being alone in his apartment, he felt an acute itchy shooting finger and he struggled to find something to photograph. He searched for inspiration by looking out of his windows, reading photography books, and eventually started shooting self-portraits. But soon, he got bored with hisself as the only subject, so he expanded the cast of his images.
All the pictures in this series were made during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project started with a 2012 image, which acted as a precursor to this project.
