Documentary photography of families
Kenya
I have worked with Heifer Project International on self-development programs in many countries. In 2001-2002, I visited several remote communities in Kenya to document their dairy, goat, and guinea pig projects. The women in Kwale started a dairy project with cows from HPI. They deliver the milk by bicycle and use the profits to send their children to school.
With their WILD (Women in Livestock Development) program, the women receive pregnant animals and lessons on how to care for them. When the animals give birth, the newborns are given to another family in the same community. Passing on the Gift is part of the HPI program to encourage participation and education about hunger relief.
