Mexico City, Day 13
Hi guys!
Day 13, which was our last day, was April 8th.
April 8th was also the day of the solar eclipse in North America. Our stomach problems had made us question whether it would be wise to go all the way to the pyramids, about 1,5 hour's drive outside the city centre. At the same time, we really wanted to go. And we had been getting much better in the last few days. The solar eclipse is what made us decide in the end. To watch the eclipse, when the moon gets in the way of the sun, right at the Pyramid of the Sun AND at the Pyramid of the Moon.....what's not to like? :-)
The ancient city of the pyramids, Teotihuacán, was a wondrous place, to be sure! The central street, the "Avenue of the Dead," with the Pyramid of the Moon at its north end and the Feathered Serpent Temple at its south end, is more than 3 km long. The city had about 125,000 inhabitants in its heyday around the years 0-500 a.d., which puts it in the top 6 worldwide during that time period.
The trip out there was also interesting. Even just from a car window, seeing the outskirts of the city climb up the sides of the volcanoes surrounding the city plain was an amazing sight.
After we got back at around 2 p.m., we had a late lunch and took a last photo walk in the Centro Historico. Today's photos are from that walk. In the evening, we packed our bags and had dinner. The next morning, we left the hotel at 5:30 a.m. for our flight to New York.
Be well!
Niklas

When I'm on my travels, i sometimes blog here
I've always liked to travel and have taken a lot of photos when I do. Since 2010, I've travelled extensively and combined my longing to discover the world with a growing passion for street photography.
My old photo blog was written between 2013 and 18. Beware, it's in Swedish and has 776 episodes.
